SIX PANTHERS SCORE IN DOUBLE FIGURES AS MEN'S HOOPS BREEZE PAST NYU-POLY, 103-74

OLD WESTBURY, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) –  The SUNY College at Old Westbury men's basketball team cruised past the visiting NYU-Poly Fighting Jays 103-74 Monday evening in Skyline Conference action from the Clark Athletic Center.  Old Westbury (11-3) improves to 6-0 in conference play while NYU-Poly (2-8) fell to 1-5.

In what started out to be a close game through the opening 16:05, Old Westbury finally broke away from the Jays with a pair of Josh Hill free-throws to put his team up for good, 35-33.  Old Westbury held a 14-4 scoring advantage over the final 3:55 to head into the half with a 47-37 lead.  Old Westbury found themselves down 20-16 with 10:19 remaining, their largest deficit of the game as the first half featured eight ties and eight lead changes. 

Old Westbury extended their lead to 17 points by using a 14-5 run from 15:38 to 12:20 to make it a 69-52 game.  NYU-Poly battled back to a 71-62 game with a 10-2 spurt only to have Old Westbury close out the final 9:57 with a 32-12 run.

Tyrik Tucker's 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting from the field led five other Panthers in double digit scoring.  Tucker added six steals, five rebounds and five assists before fouling out.  Kerel Mitchell followed with 18 points and three steals as Josh Hill netted 17 points (13-15 FT) and grabbed seven rebounds.  Darnell Chavis used 14 points and 10 rebounds to post his first double-double of the season to go along with four assists and two blocks in 25 minutes of action off the bench.  Omari Trebuse's 14 points matched a career-high and finished with five rebounds and two blocks.  Ty Moore added 11 points and four steals while Maxwell Attah racked up four blocks and six rebounds in 11 minutes.

Brendan Gallagher poured in a game high 29 points on 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc to pace NYU-Poly.  Gallagher added eight rebounds while Ed Klementowicz and Stefan Stoyanovich each pulled nine rebounds. 

Old Westbury shot 45.2 percent from the field (33-73), 33.3 percent from three point territory (9-27) and 84.8 percent from the free throw line (28-33).  NYU-Poly hit 37.2 percent from the floor (29-78), 32.1 percent from downtown (9-28) and 50 percent from the charity stripe (7-14).  Old Westbury finished with a 50-38 rebounding advantage, while scoring 22 second chance points off 19 offensive boards.  Old Westbury also scored 34 points off 24 NYU-Poly turnovers. 

MARITIME PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the hardwood for a Skyline Conference road battle with the Maritime Privateers on Wednesday (Jan. 16) evening from Riesenberg Gymnasium.  Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Throggs Neck, New York.
