Cook Becomes Hood's All-Time Three-Point Leader as Blazer Men Topple Widener, 85-68

FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Cameron Cook of the Hood College men's basketball team (9-5, 3-4 Commonwealth) broke the program record for career three-point field goals made and was one of six Blazers in double figures in an 85-68 Commonwealth Conference victory over the Widener University Pride (4-11, 3-5 Commonwealth) Saturday at BB&T Arena.

Cook entered the contest with 176 career three-pointers and in a deadlock with former Blazer Ryan Junghans, who coincidentally was at the game after being honored as part of the 2006-07 basketball team which was inducted into the Hood College Athletic Hall of Fame earlier in the day. The native of Baltimore, Md., was held without a triple in the opening stanza, but buried the record-breaking trey less than a minute into the second half to become Hood's new career leader in threes.

Cook didn't stop there however; he proceeded to score nine more points in a row, including two more long-range buckets, in a span of 1:15 which gave Hood an eight-point advantage (47-39). The spark from Cook was just what the Blazers needed after clinging to a slim two-point lead at intermission (33-31). Hood would go on to build a double-figure lead and never surrendered the upperhand the rest of the way.

Cook finished with 14 points while Justin Bowens led all scorers with 18, 12 of which came from the foul line. Trey Quinn also netted 14 points to go along with six assists and seven boards while Justin Stone chipped in 11 points and Matt Galloway had 10.

Hood, which scored 52 points in the second half, shot an astonishing 73.7 percent from the floor in the second half (14-of-19) and went 5-for-5 from distance.

Bob Makor led the Pride with 18 points off the bench.

Hood entertains the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen Wednesday at 8 p.m. in another Commonwealth contest at BB&T Arena.
