New York, NY- The Medgar Evers College Men's Basketball team fell to the John Jay College Bloodhounds 82-70 on January 8, 2013 at John Jay College. The win improves to John Jay to 7-4 Overall and 4-1 CUNYAC while Medgar Evers College dropped to 5-8 Overall and 2-3 CUNYAC.
The first half was a back and forth fight. The half featured two ties. The Cougars led by as much as 9pts for the first 10 mintes of the 1st half. John Jay took the lead briefly before the Cougars snatched it back. Junior Guard Ricco Oliver knocked down a 3pt. shot, tying the score at 38, going into the half.
John Jay led the entire 2nd half. The Cougars cut the lead to 1pt, but that was the closest they got to the lead.
In the loss, Medgar Evers College was led by Sophomre Guard Michael Taylor with a game high of 32pts (11-13 FT-FTA). Taylor grabbed 6 rebounds, added an assist, and 2 steals. Senior Forward Winston Douglas scored 14pts (3-5 FT-FTA), grabbed 18 rebounds, added an assist, 6 blocks, and 2 steals. This was his 10th double double game this season and the 6 blocks, tied a game high, when he achieved this many blocks back on Dec. 17, 2012.
John Jay College in the win, was led by Jamar Harry and Isaiah Holman with 20pts. Michael Howard added 12pts and Gary Brady scored 11pts.
Medgar Evers College will be back in action on Saturday January 12, 2013, when they play the College of Staten Island Dolphins at the CSI Sports and Rec Center. Game time is 2pm.
