Hudnut leads Colby men's basketball to win over Hamilton

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Chris Hudnut (Chevy Chase Md.) made his first collegiate New England Small College Athletic Conference game one he will not forget after posting game-highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Colby College men's basketball team to a 69-65 win over Hamilton College on Sunday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Colby moves to 4-7 overall and 1-0 in the league, while Hamilton falls to 7-7 overall and 0-2 in the NESCAC. 
Hudnut, a 6-foot-8 first-year center, shot 9-for-12 from the field and made all three of his 3-point field goal attempts. 
Colby point guard Shane Rogers (Mount Kisco, N.Y.) had eight assists and no turnovers, while Sam Willson (Watertown, Conn.), Patrick Stewart (Bangor, Maine), and Danny Chase (Weston, Conn.) all had 10 points. Luke Westman (Newton, Mass.) was 2-for-2 from the field and 3-for-3 from the foul line for seven points.
The Mules shot a blistering 64.3 percent (9-for-14) from 3-point range and had a 33-29 rebounding advantage. Hamilton had a 21-14 advantage on the boards in the opening half.
fFirst-year guard Matt Hart (Orchard Park, N.Y.) had 14 of his team-high 22 points in the first half for Hamilton. Greg Newton (Barrington, R.I.) added 14 points and Bradley Gifford (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished with 12 for the Continentals. Hart also had seven assists, five rebounds, and three steals. 
Colby got off to a fine start and led 24-11 with 8:40 to play in the opening half. Hudnut, though, picked up his second foul and left the game with 6:59 remaining. The Continentals quickly took advantage and turned a 27-15 deficit into a lead. Hamilton went on an 18-0 run to lead 33-27 before Colby cut the margin to 33-29 at the break.
The Mules also had a big start to the second half and used a 21-8 run to go up 50-41 with 11:20 to play. The Mules led 60-50 when the Continentals went on a 10-2 to run to cut the lead to 62-60 with 4:42 left.
Hart tied the game at 65-65 with a 3-point shot with 2:17 to play, but Hudnut nailed a pair of clutch free throws with 1:57 remaining. After a missed 3-point shot by Hamilton, Rogers went 1-for-2 from the foul line with 22 seconds remaining. The Continentals missed another 3-point shot for the tie with 10 seconds remaining and Stewart pulled down the rebound for Colby. Connor O'Neil made one of his two free throws with 4.7 seconds left for the final point.
