Hamline shot over 60% in each half to beat Macalester 80-53 Monday night at the Leonard Center.
Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) finished with 18 points to lead Macalester, while Dylan Kilgour (Fy., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) contributed 13 points and five assists.
Justin Wasik (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / Maine South) chipped in with nine points and Hans Erickson (So., La Crosse, Wis. / Logan) led the defense with four steals.
Hamline took command early with solid defense and led 28-11 at the 7:27 mark of the opening half, but the Scots played well during a 21-10 run to get to within six points just before the break. HU led 41-32 at halftime.
The Scots remained within striking distance and trailed 54-46 six minutes into the second stanza before the visitors scored 10 unanswered points to go up 64-46 with 9:27 left.
The Pipers enjoyed a 12-2 margin in second chance points.
Hamline was led by Dior Ford with 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Austin Johnson came off the bench to produce 12 points and eight boards. Three other Pipers finished with nine points.
The Pipers improve to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC, while the Scots are 3-6 overall, 0-4 in the MIAC.
The Scots travel to Moorhead on Saturday (Jan. 5) to take on the Concordia Cobbers.
