Lakeland owns second half in win over Macalester

Macalester returned to action for the first time since Dec. 5 when it hosted Lakeland (Wis.) Sunday afternoon at the Leonard Center.  The Scots led 39-34 at the break, but managed just 22 second half points as the Muskies rallied to win 74-61.

 

Kyle Bernhard (Fy., Sleepy Hollow, Ill. / Dundee-Crown) knocked down 4-of-6 from outside the arc for 12 points, and Justin Wasik (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / Maine South) added 10 points for Macalester.  Each contributed three assists. 

 

Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) had nine points and seven boards and, and Samson Bialostok (So., North Woodmere, N.Y. / Lawrence) finished with eight points and eight rebounds.  Hans Erickson (So., La Crosse, Wis. / Logan) dished out four assists.

 

The Muskies were led  by Jake Schwarz with 30 points and nine rebounds, while Justin Ward added 17 points and nine boards.  Lakeland, which came into the game ranked fifth in the nation in scoring, shot 55% in the second half of play.  Lakeland moves to 9-2 on the season.

 

Macalester, now 3-5 on the campaign, host Hamline Wednesday (Jan. 2) at 7:30 p.m.
