Clarkson Narrowly Defeats Baruch (61-59) to Win Holiday Tournament in Rochester

The Baruch College Bearcats lost a two point (61-59) contest to the Golden Knights of Clarkson University in the championship game of the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Holiday Tournament on Sunday afternoon in Rochester, New York.

The Bearcats trailed throughout the game and were losing 56-47 with 3:14 remaining before going on a 7-0 run to get as close as 56-54 with 1:42 left.
Brian McMahonstarted the rally with a layup and Raymond De La Cruzknocked down a jumper and 3-pointer on consecutive possessions to get as close as 56-54.

The Golden Knights connected on 5-of-5 free throws in the final minute and that was enough to clinch the victory on the neutral court of St. John Fisher College.
Edward Roscignodid manage to hit a three-pointer with two seconds left, but time ran out to suffer the final 61-59 score.

Fuat Yaparled the Bearcats (7-4) in scoring with 15 points, while De La Cruz finished with 10 points off the bench. Matas Rasciushad a solid game with eight points and nine rebounds.

Roscigno finished with nine points, career-high seven assists and five rebounds.

The Bearcats out-rebounded their opponent from the upstate Liberty League with a 37-30 margin, but the Golden Knights shot 6-of-11 from 3-point range in the second half to walk off with the holiday tournament championship.

Jerry Coleman led the Golden Knights with 19 points (5-7 3fg) and seven rebounds to improve their team's record to 8-1.

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, January 5, with a 2:00 pm CUNYAC road contest at the College of Staten Island.
