WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.— The John Jay men's basketball team was defeated by nationally prominent Lycoming College, 100-72, in the championship game of the Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament at Lycoming on Sunday.
With the loss, John Jay falls to 6-3 this season. Lycoming improves to 11-1.
John Jay was led by Jamar Harry with 18 points and was named to the All-Tournament team for his solid play this weekend. Gary Brady chipped in with 15 points.
Lycoming was led by Jerald Williams with 19 points and 14 assists in just 27 minutes of action. Meanwhile Chris Foreman had 17 points for the Warriors.
Lycoming, never trailed in the contest, opened the game on a 7-0 run en route to leading from start to finish.
The Bloodhounds cut the deficit to as little as one when John Jay trailed 9-8 with just under four minutes gone by. But Lycoming and extended its advantage to double figures moments later, and the Warriors led by as much as 16 in the first half when they were ahead 29-13 with 9:03 to play.
John Jay hung around and stayed within striking range and was down 10 at halftime as Lycoming led 45-35 at the break.
Lycoming edged away early in the second half. With the Warriors ahead 52-42, Lycoming went on an 11-0 run to take a 63-42 lead with 15:13 to play.
The Bloodhounds pulled to within 19 on the next possession, but Lycoming motored ahead and took a 30 point lead with 6:48 to go as the Warriors led 81-51.
Lycoming outrebounded John Jay 57-38 and held a 17-3 advantage on second chance points. The Warriors also held a 33-16 advantage on fast break points.
John Jay returns to action on Fri. Jan. 4 at York College at 8 p.m.
