Hood Men Advance to Championship Game of Rotary Classic with 82-61 Victory over Mounties

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College men's basketball team (6-4) used a balanced scoring attack to defeat the Mt. Aloysius College Mounties (7-3) by a margin of 82-61 Saturday evening in an opening round game of the first annual Rotary Club of Frederick Holiday Classic at BB&T Arena.

The Blazers will square off against the St. Vincent College Bearcats (8-3) in the title game at 3 p.m. Sunday at BB&T Arena. The Mounties and Penn State-Harrisburg Lions (4-7) will play in Sunday's consolation final at 1 p.m.

Matt Galloway and Trey Quinn tallied 14 points apiece while Justin Stone finished with 10 for Hood, which improved to 3-1 at BB&T Arena this season. Quinn registered the first double-double of his Blazer career with a game-high 11 rebounds while Galloway knocked down four triples. Four other Blazers registered seven points each as Hood shot 44.9 percent from the field. In addition, Hood recorded 23 assists on its 31 baskets on the night.

The Blazers maintained the upperhand for the majority of the matchup and led by 19 at halftime (46-27). Hood got solid contributions from a variety of sources, including freshmen Luke Jackson (seven points, three rebounds), James Brown (seven points, four rebounds, two blocks) and Davon Hill (four points, three rebounds) as well as sophomore Reggie Daniels (four points, three assists, two blocks) and junior Jeremy Veres (four points, eight rebounds, two blocks).

Jeff Stem of Mt. Aloysius led all scorers with 17 points, including four long-range buckets, in 23 minutes of work.

In the earlier game, St. Vincent punched its ticket to the title game behind Ben Klimchock's game-high 21 points, which included six treys, off the bench. Klimchock was one of three Bearcats to reach double figures; Dillon Stith contributed 13 points and JC Howard had 12. Jordan Gatchell led the Lions with 17 points, four steals and four assists in the losing cause.
