Rams Drop Tournament Opener Against Gettysburg

York, Pa. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team fell, 71-48, to Gettysburg in the opening game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic hosted by York College. The Rams dropped to 5-4 on the season, while the Bullets improved their record to 4-6.

In the first half, senior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting and added eight rebounds for the Rams but Gettysburg took a 35-28 advantage into the break.

The Bullets opened the second half on a 16-0 run to open up a 51-28 lead with 12:53 remaining in the game. Six straight points by Farmingdale State cut the deficit to 51-34 but Gettysburg held a double-digit lead the rest of the way as they earned a 71-48 win.

Matthews recorded a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds, while senior guard Ryan Davis (Flushing, N.Y.) added eight points.

The Bullets were led by senior guard Alex Zurn (Brookeville, Md.) who had a team-leading 19 points and seven boards.

The Rams will play host school York College in the consolation game this afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
