Adrian Wins Ninth Straight at Lawrence Tech, 72-52

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils (1-13) were no match for the Adrian College Bulldogs (9-0) on Saturday afternoon as the 12th-ranked team in NCAA Division III posted a 72-52 win on the road.

Senior Brandon Romain, playing in his second game with the team, scored a game-high 21 points off the bench in 22 minutes. Romain went 8-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-5 at the free throw line and also had five rebounds and five steals. Senior Cody Barnes scored 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 6-of-8 at the charity stripe in 35 minutes. Sophomore Eric Lewis added 14 points in 28 minutes and went 6-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the line. Lewis also had five rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

The Blue Devils scored the game's first two points but then Adrian answered with a 9-0 run and it was an uphill climb for Lawrence Tech. The Bulldogs increased their lead to 21-9 with 9:55 left in the first half after a basket by Lewis. Lawrence Tech scored seven straight points to cut the deficit down to five. The Blue Devils would get the deficit down to four with 7:03 left in the half but Adrian closed the half on a 12-5 run to lead 35-24 at the break.

Lawrence Tech came out strong in the second half to trail by just three points at 38-35 after a Jake Mullin three-pointer. The Bulldogs moved the lead back to 11 points at 49-38 after a free throw by Rickey Jackson. Adrian did not allow the home team to get back into the game and eventually led by 22 points with under two minutes left.

Adrian finished the game shooting 50 percent from the floor and 77.3 percent at the free throw line. They came into the game with season averages of 42 percent from the floor and 73.2 percent at the free throw line. The Bulldogs will now head to the Defiance Purple and Gold Tournament playing Mount Union on Dec. 29. Adrian defeated the Raiders, 63-48, earlier this season.
