Randolph Men's Basketball Pulls Away Late in 71-56 Victory over Methodist University

                LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph College men's basketball team stayed undefeated on the year as they shot 81 percent in the second half to earn a 71-56 victory over the Monarchs of Methodist University in non-league action from the Randolph Athletics and Dance (RAD) Center Saturday.

                The WildCats (9-0) led by four at the half, and only one after a three to open the second half by Methodist's Tyler Dean. The strong shooting in the second half helped the hosting WildCats to up its lead to double digits midway through the period.

                MU trimmed the Randolph advantage back down to five with 7:45 left, but the WildCat five shots to push the lead back up to 11, capped by a trifecta from senior big man Chris Battaglia (Smithfield, VA/Portsmouth) with a little over a minute left. Randolph would build the lead up to the final margin of victory thanks to free throws.

                Senior guard Colton Hunt (Whittier, NC/Smoky Mountain) scored a game-best 28 points Saturday, making 12-of-20 from the floor while grabbing a contest-best of eight boards. Hunt also had five steals and five assists. Battaglia finished with a season-high of 13 points, surpassing his total of 12 points, previously set twice.

                Junior Mike Ehilegbu (Raleigh, NC/Ravenscroft) had nine points, and first-year Jason Eddie (Charlotte, NC/Davidson Day School) knocked down three-of-five from downtown for nine points. First-year guard Evan Horn (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) added seven points and four assists for Randolph, which finished 25-of-42  (59.2 percent) from the floor overall.

                Brandon Monk and Desmond Parker each had 12 points to pace the Monarchs, who posted 40 percent (22-5) shooting on the afternoon. James Whitehead added 10 points and six steals for Methodist, who forced 21 turnovers on the afternoon by the WildCats. MU was out-rebounded 31-24, and gave the ball away 19 times as well.

                The WildCats are off for two weeks before heading to the Bojangles Holiday Classic at Hampden-Sydney College to battle Johns Hopkins University, Saturday, December 29 at 7 p.m.
