Senior Brady Pacific led six scorers in double figures with 19 points and Bethany rolled up 60 points in the second half en route to a 96-55 victory over visiting Frostburg State Tuesday night in a non-conference game in Nutting Gymnasium.
The game started slowly, with the score even at 2-2 after the first four minutes. Junior Leslie Addy knocked down a jumper to put the Bison (8-1) in front for good, as it ignited a 15-1 surge. Pacific had eight during the run and BC led by double digits the rest of the half.
The Bobcats (3-7) managed to trim it to 10 late in the period, but a jumper from senior James Barton and foul shot by junior Tyrone Smothers in the final 31 seconds sent Bethany to the locker room with a 36-23 cushion.
The margin stood at 44-30 with five minutes gone in the second half when the Bison erupted to put the game away. A 16-2 run, highlighted by a pair of Pacific treys and one from Barton, quickly swelled the Bethany lead to 60-32. The Bison were able to turn the game over to their reserves late and they continued to light up the scoreboard, as triples from freshman Alan Harper and junior Devon Braswell in the final two minutes put the exclamation point on the victory.
In the second half, Bethany was red-hot from the field, knocking down 59 percent (20-34) of its attempts, including 8-of-14 from the three-point line. The BC defense also turned the Bobcats over 22 times in the contest, which led to 28 Green and White points.
Pacific's game- and season-high 19 points included four three-pointers. Senior Nick Wilcox recorded his second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds while adding in five assists. Senior Reece Mabery turned in a big stat line with 12 points, seven steals, six assists and four rebounds.
Completing the lengthy list of top scorers was junior Kevin Jackson, who had a season-best 11. That total was matched by Addy, who earned a spot on the D3Hoops.com National Team of the Week and was named the PAC and ECAC Player of the Week last week, who posted nine boards to go with his 11 markers.
Leading Frostburg in defeat was Royce Hunsberger with 14 points off the bench. The Bobcats top scorer, Christian Jackson, who entered the game ranked in the top 10 in the nation with 26.4 points per game, was limited to only 12 by the Bethany defense.
The Bison will finish their first semester schedule Saturday with another non-league game at home. Bethany will host Olivet in a 7 p.m. tip-off.
