ALPINE, Texas --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season with an 81-74 defeat at Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon at the Pete P. Gallego Center.
The Choctaws (3-1, 1-1 ASC) jumped out to a 10-2 lead, but the Lobos (2-4, 2-0 ASC) came back and grabbed a 35-31 halftime advantage.
In the second half, Sul Ross State jumped out to as many as a 14-point lead at 62-48 with 10:03 to go. MC came back and a Turmonte Ragland jumper with 3:09 to go cut the lead to 74-69. The Lobos would pull away down the stretch, however, and came away with their second conference win in as many games.
Ragland led the Choctaws with a season-high 20 points on 8-10 shooting from the floor. Junior Lakin Ford had a season-high 15 points and eight boards for MC.
The Choctaws shot 43% from the floor and went 20-26 from the foul line, but were outrebounded by the Lobos, 42-38. Sul Ross State pulled down 18 offensive boards, alone.
Mychal Pinson led the Lobos with 26 points, going 11-20 from the floor and 3-7 from the three-point line. Aaron Williams had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
The Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday night when they open home conference play against Concordia Texas at 7:30 p.m.
