Springfield, Mass. - December 8, 2012 - The Williams College men's basketball team connected on 15 three pointers as it toppled Springfield College, 84-69, in a non-conference clash in Blake Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Williams improved to 8-1 on the season, while Springfield dropped to 7-2. Both teams were receiving votes in this week's D3Hoops.com national rankings. Springfield, which had won its last three games, had surrendered just 17 three-pointers combined in that span.

For Williams, Taylor Epley netted a game-high 27 points, going 10-for-15 from the field, including six trifectas. James Klemm also hit six three-pointers en route to 22 points and seven rebounds, while Michael Mayer notched a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards.

The Ephs finished the game shooting 58.5% (31-53) but it was their effort from downtown that was the difference. The visitors hit 15 of their 23 three point attempts, including a remarkable 10-for-14 in the opening 20 minutes.

Alex Berthiaume led Springfield with 14 points, all of which came in the second half. Jordan Rote added 12 points, while Robbie Burke tallied eight rebounds and seven points. Josh Altman and Sean Martin each posted eight points in the loss.

The Ephs were unstoppable on the offensive end of the floor in the opening 20 minutes shooting 56.7% from the floor. The visitors jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead on Klemm's first triple of the game just 2:07 in, and continued to roll, hitting 10 of their first 11 shots to earn a 26-14 lead following a three-point basket from Mayer.

A pair of free throws from Rossi would make it a 32-22 game with 5:36 remaining in the half, but Williams closed on a 14-5 burst to head into the locker room up 46-27. Klemm was in the zone, burying six three-pointers en route to 20 points in just 16 minutes of action.

Williams didn't let up as Epley knocked down two consecutive three-pointers in the opening minute of the second half to increase its lead to 25. Springfield got within 19 after a three-point play by Berthiaume with 13:13 remaining in regulation, but the visitors would not back down, continuing to be efficient on offense.

Williams would lead by as many as 29 in the second half before the Springfield reserves closed out the final 2:21 on a 10-2 run en route to the 15-point margin of defeat.

Springfield will look to get back on the winning track on Tuesday night when it travels to take on Castleton at 7:00 pm.
