CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Mount Mercy, ranked 18th in the latest NAIA National Poll, jumped out to a 10-0 lead on the Kohawks and never trailed, as they snapped Coe College's winning-streak with a 79-59 win Saturday.

Following the 10-0 start, the Mustangs used a 19-2 run midway through the first half to take a 34-8 lead with 6:36 to play in the first half.  A layup by senior David Mataloni (Urbandale, Iowa/Urbandale) with 6:10 to play in the half sparked a run for the Kohawks, as they outscored the Mustangs 17-5 in the final 6:10, including a 3-pointer from junior Andrew Wirth (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Falls) with :03 to play in the opening half.

The Kohawks stayed hot to start the second half, as they opened the first 4:39 on a 16-7 run, cutting the Mount Mercy lead to 46-41.  The Mustangs had a big answer, as they went on a 13-3 run in the next 3:20, holding Coe without a field goal in the stretch to take a 59-44 lead with 10:50 to play.  Coe was able to get the lead down to 11 with 8:54 to play and 12 with 4:40 remaining, but couldn't get any closer.

Mataloni finished with a game-high 18 points, as he moved into 14th on Coe's all-time scoring list with 1,020 points.  Wirth tied a career-high with 17 points.  Senior Seth Light (Carlisle, Iowa/Carlisle) tallied nine points and 11 rebounds, while senior Nathan Joens (Swisher, Iowa/Prairie) scored eight points and tied a career-high with 11 rebounds.  Light moved into 10th on Coe's career rebounds list with 484.

The Kohawks were held without a field goal in the final 3:43 of the game.  Mount Mercy held a 26-16 advantage in the paint and a 22-2 advantage in bench points.  The Mustangs scored 23 points off 21 Kohawk turnovers, while Coe scored seven points off six Mustang miscues.

Coe returns to action on Friday, as they host Carthage.  The Red Men are 4-3 after a 74-63 victory over Calvin Saturday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.  A link for live video and live stats can be found at CoeAthletics.com.
