Brooklyn Tops FDU-Florham, 73-67

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team picked up its first victory of the 2012-2013 season tonight, as the Bulldogs topped the Devils of Fairleigh Dickinson University – College at Florham, by a score of 73-67. BC is now 1-4 overall on the year, while FDU-Florham drops to 1-4 overall on the season.

The Bulldogs were led by senior forwards Kavon Baker and Jeffrey Noel, as the duo netted 18 points each. Baker also dished eight assists, to go along with five rebounds and three steals in 40 minutes of action. Sophomore guard Steven Diaz finished with 12 points hitting 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, while senior forward Steven Grant chipped in with 10 points.

FDU-Florham also had four players in double figure scoring, led by Trevor Sykes team-high 17 points. Matt Argudo added 15 points coming off the bench, while Will Green and Derek Hall finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Green and Argudo each grabbed eight rebounds apiece on the night.

The game featured a tight contest throughout, as both teams combined for 12 lead changes and 10 ties during the ballgame.

With the Devils up four, 56-52, with 9:01 remaining in the game, BC used an 8-0 run, with sophomore Jerome Hayden and Diaz each knocking down a big three-pointer, to put the Bulldogs up four, 60-56, at the 7:49 mark of the second half.

From there on out, Brooklyn would hold off FDU-Florham the rest of the way, en route to its 73-67 victory.

For the game, BC shot 48.1% (26-54) from the field, including 30.0% (6-20) from three. The Bulldogs also shot 68.2% (15-22) from the free throw line. Brooklyn also racked up 10 steals en route to forcing the Devils into 17 turnovers, which led to 20 BC points.

FDU-Florham shot 39.0% (23-59) from the field and 22.7% (5-22) from three. The Devils also shot 59.3% (16-27) from the foul line. FDU-Florham also held the rebounding edge, 43-31.

Brooklyn will return to action this Thursday, December 6th, as the Bulldogs will play host to CUNY Athletic Conference rival York College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm at the West Quad Center. BC-TV will be televising the game and will be aired at a later date.
