GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Zeb Richardson paced four Quakers in double-figure scoring with a career- and game-high 15 points in Guilford College's 65-55 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over Randolph-Macon College Saturday.
Richardson netted nine points in the second half, which saw the Quakers erase a 29-27 halftime deficit. Guilford (4-1, 2-0 ODAC) shot better than 57 percent from the floor in the second half, compared to the Yellow Jackets' 38 percent shooting.
Lamar Giggetts' basket with 12:07 left in the game gave Randolph-Macon (2-4, 1-1 ODAC) its final lead, 42-41. The Quakers answered with a 17-7 run over the next nine minutes that decided the contest.
Richardson led a dominant performance by the Quakers' frontcourt. Guilford outscored the Yellow Jackets, 42-16, in the paint and enjoyed a 41-30 rebounding edge. Junior forward Jake Hopkins scored 12 points and had six rebounds for Guilford. Fellow forward Will Freeman chipped in 10 points off the bench and guard Josh Pittman collected a double-double with 10 points and career-high 10 assists. He also had six rebounds, three steals and a block in a solid all-around effort. Senior center Kevin Gibbs scored six points and had a game-high eight rebounds, five off the offensive glass.
Giggetts paced the Yellow Jackets with 12 points and Chris Hamilton added 11 off the bench thanks to a game-high three three-point goals. Andre Simon finished with nine points and six rebounds.
Guilford continues its three-game homestand Wednesday (12/5) at 7:30 p.m. versus cross-town rival Greensboro College.
