BUFFALO, NY— Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) netted 27 points and led a second-half surge as Buffalo State (3-1/1-0) pulled away from visiting Oneonta (1-3/0-1) for an 85-64 victory in the SUNYAC opener tonight at the Sports Arena.
Epps finished 10 of 17 from the field, including hitting 5 of 10 from 3-point range, and also had four steals. Anyar Majak (Rochester/Jefferson) was the only other Bengal scorer in double-figures, scoring 10 points to go with nine rebounds and four blocks. Jake Simmons (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Maurice Miles (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) tallied eight points each.
Buffalo State never trailed and took a 38-29 lead in the first half, before the Red Dragons answered with a 9-0 run to even the score at 38-38 in the final minute of the opening frame. The Bengals hit a late 3-pointer to take a 41-38 lead into the break. The Bengals ran away in the second half, limiting Oneonta to just 26 points. The Red Dragons shot just 36-percent from the field over the final 20 minutes, including hitting just 1 of 11 from beyond the arc.
Buffalo State shot 47-percent from the field for the game and outscored the Red Dragons 27-6 from long range. The Bengals also had six blocked shots, compared to none by Oneonta.
Buffalo State will host New Paltz tomorrow for another conference matchup at 4 p.m.
