Hamm Leads Saints to a 64-45 Win Over Grove City in PAC Opener

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior point guard Ryan Hamm (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) scored a game-high 13 points to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to a 64-45 win over Grove City College tonight (Wednesday, November 28, 2012) in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Wolverines fall to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the PAC.

Thomas More jumped out to a 13-2 lead when junior shooting guard Cameron Clemons (Louisville, Ky./Doss) made a lay-up with 14:09 to play in the first half.  Grove City responded with a 12-2 run to cut the lead to 15-14 with 6:48 to play in the opening half when Isaiah Reeves made a lay-up.  The Saints answered with an 11-4 run to extend the lead to 26-18 when Clemons made one-of-two free-throws at the 2:39 mark of the first half.  The Wolverines closed out the half on a 5-0 run to cut the Saints lead to 26-23 at halftime when Mitch Marmelstein made one-of-two free-throws with six-seconds to play in the first half. 

The Saints opened the second half on a 14-7 run to increase the lead to 40-30 when senior shooting guard Ethan King (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) made a jumper with 11:43 to play in the second half.  Grove City responded with a 10-5 run capped by two free-throws by Christian Durbin with 7:33 to play in the game to cut the lead to 45-40.  Undaunted Thomas More used a 19-4 run to build its biggest lead of the game at 64-44 with 1:32 to play in the game when Hamm made two free-throws.  Grove City made a free-throw with 12-seconds to play in the game for the final margin of 64-45.

Hamm led three Saints in double-figures scoring as junior point guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) had 12 points and junior point guard Eliot Pipes (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) had 11 points.  The team was led on the boards by sophomore shooting guard Chris Richard (Louisville, Ky./Southern) with six rebounds,  while Pipes led the team in in assists with four and Hayes led the team in steals with six.

Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (December 1) when it travels to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania to play Waynesburg University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
