NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team defeated the City College of New York (CCNY) 81-61 in front of a packed Doghouse for Homecoming on Tuesday evening.

The win improves John Jay's record to 2-1 (1-0 CUNYAC) this season, while CCNY is now 3-2 (0-1 CUNYAC) on the year.

The Bloodhounds were led by Isaiah Holman with 27 points. He connected on 9-of-12 shooting as John Jay shot 49.2 percent (30-for-61) in the contest. Fellow teammate Michael Howard added 12 points and Korede Griffith chipped in with 10 off the bench. It was also a Homecoming for elder statesman Gary Brady with 13 points and eight rebounds. It was Brady's first game for the Bloodhounds since the 2008-09 season. John Jay also got a big contribution from Oshea Alexander who was 3-for-3 with eight points. Two of his field goals came on thunderous dunks, including a jam from the baseline that brought the massive home crowd to its feet.

CCNY was led by Brandon Reeves and Anthony Lewis with 18 points each.

The Bloodhounds led most of the contest and were up by as much as eight in the first half. The biggest lead of the half came with 4:04 remaining after a lay-up by Swindon Charles who chipped in with five rebounds and two steals.

The visiting Beavers who trailed by three at halftime at 35-32, opened the second half out scoring John Jay 16-7 over the first eight and a half minutes of play to take a 48-42 lead with 11:51 left.

But the Bloodhounds countered immediately with an 11-0 spurt to retake the lead and were ahead 53-48 with just over eight minutes to play.

John Jay never trailed again in the game and seemed to score at will in the closing moments.  Excellent free throw shooting in the second half by the Bloodhounds helped increase the lead in the latter stages of the contest.  After shooting just 3-for-9 from the charity stripe in the first stanza and missing more free throws early in the second half, John Jay made 11 of its last 12 over the final ninety seconds to pull away late.

The Bloodhounds dominated the Beavers on points in the paint, outscoring them 36-26. John Jay also had a 31-14 advantage on points in the paint.

John Jay is back in action on Thursday for a game at Gwynedd-Mercy College at 7 p.m.
