Brooklyn, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team defeated the CUNYAC preseason favorite, Medgar Evers, 62-60 on Wednesday night in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Rams improved to 2-1 overall, while the Cougars fell to 2-2 on the year.

Medgar Evers led for most of the first, before Farmingdale tied it up on a three-pointer from senior guard Ryan Davis (Flushing, N.Y.) to end the half at 28-28.

In the second, Farmingdale took a quick lead with three free-throws from senior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and would lead most of the half. With six minutes to play, the Cougars went on a 9-0 run to take a one point lead with 3:41 remaining. A Medgar Evers foul in the paint would send Matthews to the line again, and he put his team back up by one and the Rams held on the rest of the way.

The Cougars were led by senior Jovan Deare with a game-high 28 points and 11 rebounds. Senior forward Winston Douglas earned his fourth straight double-double with 10 points and 19 rebounds.

Farmingdale State was led by Matthews with 24 points (all scored in the second half), seven rebounds, and four blocks. Davis finished with 18 points, six steals and three assists.

The Rams will host Old Westbury on Thursday, November 29th in their home opener at 8:00 p.m.
