NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – Manchester University gave Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association power Calvin a strong test despite an 87-63 loss Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Coach Brad Nadborne's Spartans, dipping to 3-3, kept the unbeaten Knights (6-0) firmly in their sight throughout a large portion of the first half. MU, playing inside its friendly confines of Stauffer-Wolfe Arena, gave the home fans plenty to cheer about holding four leads in the opening 10:25. However, the visitors took off on a 9-0 run after trailing 20-19 which eventually led to a 45-32 halftime lead.

Calvin had to work through an early second half run by the Black and Gold, too. A lay-up by senior forward David House (Elkhart, Ind.) cut the Knights' lead to 55-45 with 12:18 to play. A 12-4 stretch for the visitors over the next four minutes stretched the advantage out to 18 en route to the final.

Sophomore guard Greg Flores (Hammond, Ind.) continued his recent torrid run with18 points to lead Manchester University, increasing his current double-figure roll to five straight, while sophomore forward Silas Sims (Hope, Ind.) tallied 17 points, blocked a Calvin shot and added five rebounds. MU's recent theme of a balanced offensive attack continued on with sophomore guard Grant Newlin (Muncie, Ind.) and House each tossed in 10 points. Newlin also picked up three steals and blocked a shot.

Calvin also placed four players in double figures. Senior forward Tom Snikkers' 12 points and nine rebounds and a 10-point, four-blocked shot outing from sophomore forward Tyler Dykstra were among the highlights.

The Spartans move into 2012-13 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday, Dec. 1. MU makes a trip to Hanover for a 3 p.m. tipoff against the Panthers inside Collier Arena in the Horner Fitness and Recreation Center. The two women's teams match up at 5 p.m.
