Eagles rally late but fall short against Blue Jays

FULTON, Mo. –For the second straight night, the Edgewood College men's basketball team found themselves in a Missouri showdown. The Eagles rallied to tie Westminster College in the second half but could not escape a late shooting drought and fell to the Blue Jays 65-57 on Saturday night.

Edgewood College (1-3) started the game in an early hold as they were held scoreless until the 17:42 mark in the first half. The Eagles only shot 36.7 percent (11-for-30) in the first half and were down 20-9 halfway through the first period. Despite the large deficit, Edgewood College fought back with a couple buckets by Justin Williams and a Brett Meinecke and-one to cut the deficit to six at the break.

Sohomores Dylan Rusch and Joe Klocek started the second half with back-to-back baskets to make the score 32-30 in favor of Westminster (4-0). Edgewood College continued to battle as they stuck with the unbeaten Blue Jays to tie the game at 53 with 5:57 remaining. Westminster held Edgewood College scoreless for the next four minutes and closed the game 12-4 run to edge out the Eagles.

Edgewood College committed a season high 19 turnovers which led to 20 Blue Jay points. The Eagle improved their shooting in the second half as they cashed in on 52.0 percent of their shots but only shot 4-for-16 from beyond the arc.

Klocek had his fourth straight double digit point game of the season as he scored 11 to go along with eight rebounds. The Lake Mills native led the team in both categories. Trevor Neale came off the bench and shot 4-for-6 from the floor to finish with 10 points. Cashton Craig, Meinecke, and Rusch each netted seven points apiece for the Eagles.
