NEW YORK – A dominating first half led by guard Zachary Heiss' perfect 3-for-3 performance from beyond the arc and 11 offensive rebounds gave the Beavers a 40-13 lead as the City College of New York (3-0) sailed past Maritime College, 65-36, on Tuesday evening to record its third consecutive victory to begin the 2012-13 campaign.

Heiss finished the game with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting off of the bench. Points off of turnovers continued to be a vital point to the team's early success as CCNY forced 25 Maritime turnovers and scored 27 points while picking up 12 steals.

The Beavers were hot on the offensive glass all evening, registering 20 offensive rebounds as opposed to Maritime's two boards and outrebounded the Privateers 44-26 in the nonconference contest.

Brandon Reeves was the high man in the victory, posting 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Reigning City University of New York Athletic Conference / Applebee's Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week Anthony Lewis added 11 points while guard Paul Dail dished out five assists and picked up three steals.

City College's defense stifled the Privateers from the tip, holding Maritime to 24 percent shooting in the first half and just 10 points until Ron Bethea hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to head into halftime trailing 40-13.

CCNY heads to Patchogue, New York on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 5:15 PM to face St. Joseph's College after the women's team faces the Golden Eagles at 3 PM.
