Macalester tops Caltech for 3-1 start

Macalester started the second half on a 12-1 and went to beat Caltech 73-61 in Pasadena as the Scots improve to 3-1 on the season.  This was Macalester's second win in less than 24 hours after beating Occidental Friday afternoon.

 

Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) led the way for the Scots with 23 points and nine rebounds, going 7-for-9 from the field.

 

Pierce Peters (Sr., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) added 16 points, Hans Erickson (So., La Crosse, Wis. / Logan) scored 13 (11 in the second half) and Dylan Kilgour (Fy., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley)  finished with 11.  Griffin Glatt (Fy., Summit, N.J. / Newart Academy) led the team with seven rounds, while Erickson and Peters each grabbed six boards.

 

Michael Edwards paced Caltech (0-4) with 16 points.

 

Macalester led 13-5 in second chance points.

 

Caltech led 18-17 before the Scots began a 10-2 run to go on top 27-20.  The Beavers came back to deadlock the halftime score at 28-28.  The Scots re-gained momentum to start the second period and went up 40-29.  Mac led 62-44 with 7:10 to play and the advantage grew to 22 points at 70-48 with 3:42 to go.

 

Macalester opens MIAC play Wednesday (Nov. 28) when it hosts St. Thomas at 7:30 p.m.
