FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College men's basketball team (2-1) defeated Immaculata University (0-3) 64-44 in the team's first home game of the season. The Blazers used a strong second half surge to put away the Mighty Macs and move to 2-1 on the season.

Hood was led by junior sharp shooter Cameron Cook, who scored 23 points on 8-11 shooting. Cook was deadly from behind the three-point line sinking 5-7 on the night. It is the third consecutive game to start the season that Cook has hit five shots from downtown. Junior forward Jeremy Veres was the only other Blazer in double-digits with 11 points.

The first half was an ugly one for both teams as turnovers and missed opportunities were hurting both sides. The Blazers jumped out to a 10-2 lead after five points from Cook and three early points from sophomore forward Reggie Daniels. The Mighty Macs fought back later in the half and had the lead trimmed to one after a Todd Stokley layup. The Blazers rebounded, but only went into the half up four at 22-18.

The second half was a different story as the Blazers completely dominated on both ends of the court. The defensive ferocity was evident from the moment the second half started and the Blazers turned great defense into easy offense. The blue-and-grey used a 25-6 run in the first eight minutes of the second half to break the game wide open. During the run a Cook dunk really got the fans off their seats and a Trey Quinn three that banked in just showed that it was going to be the Blazers night. Immaculata had no answers and Hood coasted the rest of the way en route to its second win of the season.

For the night Hood shot 46 percent from the floor and 59 percent in the second half. Immaculata shot just 30 percent for the game. Immaculata held an advantage in rebounds with 39 to Hood's 33, however Hood's intense defense caused 21 Immaculata turnovers, while Hood had 17.

The Blazers return to action after Thanksgiving when they take on Eastern University this Saturday November 24. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m.
