TACOMA - Texas-Dallas shot 67 percent in the second half to rally from a 10-point halftime deficit and beat the Pacific Lutheran men's basketball team, 66-58, in the opening round of the Doug McArthur Classic hosted by the University of Puget Sound.
The game was the season opener for both teams.
PLU limited the Comets to 29 percent shooting in the first half in building up a 28-18 lead at the intermission, but the visitors from Texas shot lights out in the final 20 minutes. They were 12-for-18 from the field, including 5-for-8 from beyond the three point arc, in rallying for the win.
Carter Nash led the winners with 27 points, including a 15-for-16 effort at the foul line. Kyle Schleigh added 17 points and a game-high eight rebounds in the winning effort.
Junior wing Kai Hoyt paced Pacific Lutheran with 14 points, six rebounds and four steals, and Drew Earnest added 10 points, including 2-for-5 from long range.
The Lutes are back in action at 5 p.m. Saturday when they play New Hope Christian College in the Doug McArthur Classic.
