Macalester tips off season with win over Wisconsin Lutheran

Macalester began its 2012-13 campaign Friday night on a winning note, playing to a 62-51 victory over Wisconsin Lutheran at the Leonard Center in the first-ever meeting between these two schools.  With three frosh in the starting lineup, the young Scots scored the game's first basket and never trailed, holding the Warriors to a 28% shooting mark on the night.

 

The Scots shot 43% and were led in the scoring column by Pierce Peters (Sr., Glenwood, Minn. / Minnewaska Area) with 18 points on an 8-for-16 shooting performance.  Pierce also contributed eight rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots

 

Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) came off the bench to register 13 points and seven boards while going 7-for-7 from the free throw line.  Dylan Kilgour (Fy., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) drained a couple three-pointers and finished with 12 points and three assists.  Griffin Glatt (Fy., Summit, N.J. / Newark Academy) tied Peters for the team rebounding lead with eight boards.

 

Natt Bauer led Wisconsin Lutheran with 15 points and Russell Strutz added 10.

 

Macalester led 12-10 and 17-14 before starting a 12-2 run to go up 29-16 with 2:27 remaining in the opening half.  The Scots led 31-20 at the break.  The game's biggest lead was 19 when Mac was on top 40-21 at the 15:41 mark of the second period.  WLC cut the margin to single digits with 8:51 to go and were within six at 54-48 before the Scots tallied eight straight points to put things away.

 

The Scots go for two in a row Tuesday (Nov. 19) when they host Northwestern-Roseville at 7:30 in the second game of a women's/men's doubleheader with the Eagles.
