Owings Mills, Md. – Three Seahawks notched double-digit points for the No. 19 St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team Saturday night on the second day of the inaugural Hoopsville National Invitational Classic.  However, the Seahawks succumbed to a 65-52 setback at the hands of The Catholic University of America.

Sophomore guard Nick LaGuerre (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) posted 13 points on 3-of-4 shooting from downtown along with three assists and two steals while junior guard Donn Hill (Aberdeen, Md./Bel Air) added 10 points and two blocks in the loss.

The Seahawks (0-1) opened up their first game of the season with a solid 17-7 run for the 10-point lead at 11:59 behind a pair of LaGuerre triples.  St. Mary's stretched the lead to 12 by the 3:11-minute mark, using a 9-4 run after Catholic had closed the gap to 19-12 five minutes prior.

Catholic (2-0) erased its double-digit deficit over the final three minutes of the half to send the Seahawks into halftime with just a 28-27 lead as the Cardinals closed out the first 20 minutes on an 11-0 run.  CUA was 4-for-4 from the free throw line during run and junior center Peter Schramm (Butler, Pa.) tipped in the rebound from senior guard Nate Koenig's (Chevy Chase, Md.) missed three-pointer with one second on the clock.

LaGuerre and Catholic seniors Chris Kearney (Centreville, Pa.) and Shawn Holmes (Baltimore, Md.) paced all players in the first half with eight points while sophomore center MacGyver Biniak (Elkridge, Md./Howard) grabbed seven caroms for the Seahawks in the first 20 minutes to lead all rebounders.  Biniak finished the contest with career-highs of 11 rebounds, eight points, and two blocks.

The Cardinals took hold of the driver's seat from the start of the second stanza utilizing jumpers by Kearney and Holmes to claim their first lead of the game at 18:04 (31-30) – an advantage that Catholic never relinquished.  CUA extended its one-point lead to 19 – the biggest of the game by either team – at 5:03 behind a long-range jumper by sophomore guard Steve Limberiou (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and never looked back.

Nineteen of Catholic's 65 points came off 15 Seahawk turnovers while the Cardinals gave away the ball only five times over 40 minutes.  Kearney collected a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds while Holmes had 16 points.  Limberiou contributed 13 points on 3-of-6 long-range shooting and Koenig added a dozen.

The Seahawks will look to rebound from their season-opening loss tomorrow at 4:00 pm as St. Mary's takes on No. 24 Randolph-Macon College (0-2) in the final day of the Hoopsville Classic.
