Thomas downs Nor'easters at Charlie Ryan Classic

FARMINGTON, Maine -- Adam Carlsen paced five players in double figures with 14 points to help give Thomas College a 99-76 season-opening victory over the University of New England in day one of the Charlie Ryan Classic held at Dearborn Gymnasium on the campus of UMaine Farmington.

Carlsen came off the bench to hit four 3-pointers in six attempts. Stanley Greene and Ray Bernier contributed 13 points apiece for the Terriers, while KJ Ottley added 12 and Garen Manzo 10.

Junior Charles Fenner III tallied a game-high 24 points for the Nor'easters. He made 5 of 9 attempts from beyond the arc and also grabbed five rebounds.

UNE also received 10 points each from sophomore Conner Michalak and first-year Devin Thompson. Sophomore Jake Abel dished out a game-best five assists, and first-year Mitch Loeman contributed seven points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Leading 42-35 at the break, the Terriers outscored 57-41 after halftme to pull away. Thomas shot 48.9 percent (22 of 45) in the second frame while connecting on 9 of 20 attempts from downtown.

Both teams wrap up play at the event tomorrow. UNE takes on UMaine Farmington at 1 p.m., followed by Thomas and UMaine Machias. Each contest will be held at Thomas College.
