(Lexington, KY) The roll continues as Carroll University stunned sixteenth-ranked Transylvania University in the first round of the NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament.
The Pioneers will face Wittenburg University on Saturday at 6 p.m. for the right to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. Carroll is seeking to get to the round of 16 for the first time since the 2006-2007 season.
Wittenberg knocked off Birmingham-Southern University in the first contest of the night.
The hosts packed the house and created a distinct home court advantage until the Pioneer seized control of the game with their strengths on the low blocks and deadly three-point shooting.
Carroll continued its hot shooting from the field, connecting on 59.1% of its attempts.
The Pioneers held a 41-32 lead at halftime thanks in part to 6-of-10 shooting from three-point land. Carroll finished the night nine 3s on 15 attempts.
Dan Kratz and Alec Molter tied for game-highs with 15 points each while four others reached double figures in scoring - Kevin Hurd (13), Christian Shepley (13), Kyle Jones (11) and Jake Bast (10).
