HOLLAND, Mich. - The Calvin men's basketball season came to a conclusion Wednesday night with an 87-80 loss to Hope in the MIAA Tournament semifinals at DeVos Fieldhouse.
Calvin concludes its season with an overall record of 13-13. Calvin trailed 41-27 at halftime but came back to cut the deficit to eight points on four separate occasions in the second half and to five points with nine seconds to play.
Ranked number-one in the country, Hope was able to hold off Calvin with free throw shooting inside the final minute of play.
Calvin was led in defeat by junior guard Bryan Powell with 18 points while sophomore center Tyler Kruis who tallied his second straight double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Tom Snikkers had 14 points while Matt DeBoer had 13 points.
Hope was led by David Krombeen with 23 points as Hope shot 52.7 percent from the floor.
Calvin held a 39-34 rebounding advantage.Hope now leads the all-time series with Calvin 95-87 and will host the MIAA Tournament Championship game Saturday at 3 p.m. against Adrian.
