Marymount Men’s Hoops Closes Out Season Victorious

Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's basketball team wrapped up the 2011-12 regular season with a 71-60 victory over visiting Stevenson in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.  The Saints have won seven of the last eight meetings against the Mustangs.

 

Reed Scott led the Saints (6-19, 2-14 CAC) with 20 points while Jesse Konadu added 19 and Andrew Somuah added 10.  Konadu led MU with nine rebounds while Somuah tied a career-high with seven boards.

 

A slow paced first half proved to be competitive with six ties and eight lead changes.  Neither team led by any more than three points the entire frame as both squad went into halftime tied at 24-24.

 

Changing pace in the second, Marymount took control early courtesy of a 12-2 run to take a 38-26 lead at the 13:37 mark.  Stevenson (6-19, 3-13 CAC) would pull within eight at 40-32 with 12 minutes to play but couldn't pull back any closer than three possessions for the rest of the game.

 

Stefon McCray led the Mustangs with 21 points while Greg Collins and Brett Burrier both added 12.

 

Marymount graduates just two seniors from the 2011-12 squad and returns 13 letterwinners in 2012-13.
