PRIDE CLIMB OVER MOUNTAINEERS ON SENIOR DAY

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College defeated Southern Vermont College, 93-58, on Saturday night in New England Collegiate Conference men's basketball action in Weston, Mass. The Pride improves to 10-15 overall and 7-9 in the NECC and awaits word to hear who their first round opponent will be in the NECC playoffs starting on Tuesday night. Senior captain Kandley Val (Boston, Mass.) posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds on Senior Day.

The Pride recognized four seniors in a pregame ceremony. Jordan Faust (Wakefield, R.I.), Jonathan Josselin (Medford, Mass.), Mike Seldon (Boston, Mass.) and Kandley Val were honored for their contributions Regis College both athletically and academically. The four seniors had a major impact in the final regular season home games of their careers.

Along with Val's double-double, Josselin just nearly posted a triple-double with 13 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists, while Seldon scored three points and grabbed seven rebounds. Jordan Faust went 6-of-10 from the field, including a perfect 4-for-4 from three, en route to 16 points while adding five assists and a pair of steals.

The Pride started the game on a 7-0 run and took a 14-2 lead on a Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) three-ball. With all the momentum on their side, Regis built a 32 point lead following back-to-back baskets by Faust and Seldon. Taeshon Johnson's (Charlotte, N.C.) three as time expired made it a 52-23 game headed into halftime. The Regis lead never fell below 30 for the rest of the game as all 14 players entered the game for the Pride with 13 out of 14 players registering at least two points.

The Pride nearly doubled up the Mountaineers in rebounds (50-24) while winning the turnover battle and causing 18 Southern Vermont miscues. The Pride converted the SVC turnovers into 23 points and dominated points in the paint, 46-20. Regis registered assists on 29 of a possible 38 made field goals in the win and shot 53.5% (38-of-71) from the field.

Joining the Regis seniors in double digits were Chambers and Robert Edwards (Memphis, Tenn.), who added 10 points apiece.

Southern Vermont was led by a monster double-double from Taeshon Johnson as the junior netted 36 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds while swiping five steals. Travis Severs (Bennington, Vt.) buried a pair of triples while joining Johnson in double-figures with 10 points and added five assists and five rebounds. Cory Christensen (Sharon, Conn.) also added seven points in the setback.

Regis now awaits word on their playoff future. The opening round of the NECC postseason opens up on Tuesday night. Southern Vermont finishes its season at 2-22 overall and 2-14 in league play.
