WENHAM, Mass – Paced by four player in double figures the Gordon College men's basketball team shot nearly 60 percent from the floor for the game and defeated Wentworth, 80-57, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday night.

The Leopards opened the game with a 3-pointer from senior Adam Dombrowski (Dunstable, Mass.), and, after the Fighting Scots took a 5-3 lead, Dombrowski converted a 3-point play to give Wentworth a 6-5 edge. However, that would be the last lead Wentworth would have as Gordon used an 8-2 run to take a 13-8 lead with 16:02 left in the half.

Gordon held the Leopards scoreless for nearly seven and a half minutes and turned a 13-12 lead into a 29-12 lead with 8:28 left in the half. The Fighting Scots led, 37-18, with 2:49 left before the Leopards closed the half on a 7-0 run – with five of those points coming from junior Corey Therriault (Auburn, Maine) and cut the lead to a dozen at the break.

The Fighting Scots opened the second half on a 10-2 run to extend the lead to 22 and would lead by as many as 23 points with just under 14 minutes to play. Trailing, 63-42, with 7:00 remaining, Wentworth rolled off the next nine points to make it a 12-point game when Therriault drained a trifecta. However, the hosts answered by going on an 11-4 run to seal the win.

Sophomore Park Thomas (Scotsdale, Ariz.) led Gordon with 18 points, going 5-for-6 from the floor and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Thomas also had seven assists. Senior Garrett Harden (Worcester, Mass.) had 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while junior David Dempsey (Wallingford, Conn.) and freshman Hans Miersma (Whitinsville, Mass.) had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Therriault paced the Leopards with 15 points and seven rebounds on 5-for-7 shooting, including 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Dombrowski added 12 points while freshman John-Michael Fragnoli (Scotia, N.Y.) and junior Colin Johnson (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) had eight and seven points, respectively.

Gordon improves to 9-15 overall and 8-9 in CCC play. The Fighting Scots wrap up the regular season on Saturday at Nichols. Wentworth falls to 15-8 (11-6) and steps out of conference to host Southern Maine Thursday night.
