WAYNE, N.J. – No. 15 William Paterson (22-3) used a 21-3 run that spanned both halves to ignite a 75-49 Senior Day men's basketball victory Feb. 14 against visiting City College of New York (2-23).
Freshman Najea Brown (Newark, N.J./St. Anthony) scored a career-best 16 points on 6-for-7 (.857) shooting overall and a 4-for-5 (.800) effort from three-point range. Junior Corey Chandler (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) matched that with 16 tallies, adding three assists and four steals. Lone senior Nolan Hill (Edgewater, N.J./Bergen Catholic) posted four steals, freshman Manny Hernandez (Paterson, N.J./Paramus Catholic) contributed seven points off the bench and classmate James McLane (Belleville, N.J./Queen of Peace) had eight tallies and a team-best six rebounds.
Trailing 30-29 with 5:20 on the clock, WP scored 11 of the final 12 points of the half and entered the locker room with a 41-31 advantage. That lead quickly grew to 17 at 50-33 five minutes into the second period, and expanded to 68-42 by the 7:16 mark.
The Pioneers shot 61.4 (32-53) percent from the field and out-scored the Beavers 44-16 in the paint and 33-9 off turnovers.
Junior Israel Vickers paced CCNY with 13 points. Freshman Brandon Reeves had 12 tallies.
William Paterson will host a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Tournament semifinal game Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7:00 p.m.
