Three-Point Barrage Leads Castleton over Green Mountain, 118-63

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Spartans put on an offensive display in the first half, raining 13 triples from behind the arc en route to 82 points before finishing with the 118-63 victory over Green Mountain on Saturday afternoon at Glenbrook Gym.

The junior trio of Logan White (Hartford, Vt.), Dammy Mustapha (Bellows Falls, Vt.) and Mark Comstock (Rutland, Vt.) combined for 54 points, including a 9-for-10 performance from downtown in the opening 20 minutes as Castleton shot its way to an 82-34 half-time advantage.

The Spartans scored just 36 points in the second half but still managed their second-highest scoring game of the season with 118 points. With the victory they improve to 14-8 overall and 13-2 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Eagles fall to 4-17 on the season and 3-12 in conference play.

Castleton finished the evening with 19 threes and recorded an impressive 30 assists on 41 field goals. White was locked in from the opening tip, hitting all five of his three-point attempts in the first half and finishing 8-for-9 from behind the arc for a career-high 29 points. He also had four rebounds and three assists without a turnover.

Mustapha scored all of his 17 points in the first half, going 5-for-5 from the field and pulled down seven rebounds. Comstock recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 24 points and ten boards. Sophomore Matt Cooney (Washingtonville, N.Y.) finished with a team-high six assists and also added six points and three rebounds.

Terry Jones (Pearl, Mo.) led Green Mountain with 21 points while Carnelius Green (Oviedo, Fla.) added a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Jakerion Ales (Batesville, Miss.) was also in double figures with 14 points.

It was back and forth early in the first half as Castleton led just 15-11 after five minutes of action. However, the Spartans started their onslaught with a 15-4 run that pushed their lead to 30-15 with 11:11 remaining.

Green hit a layup to try to stem the run, but Castleton responded with a 23-6 run which saw the Spartans jump out to 53-21 advantage with 6:03 left in the half. The final five minutes of the half was all Castleton as the team kept pressing and firing from downtown, finishing the half on a 23-7 run for the 82-34 lead.

In the second half, the Spartans pushed their lead as high as 56 at 111-55 with 6:25 remaining before finishing with the 55-point victory, their largest of the season.

Castleton has a quick turnaround as the team faces Johnson St. on Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m. in Glenbrook Gym.
