ONEONTA, N.Y. – Four different Lakers hit three-pointers to open the game as the 18th-ranked Oswego State men's basketball team (17-3, 14-0 SUNYAC) secured a 68-55 win at Oneonta (2-20, 1-14) on Friday night. The victory coupled with a Buffalo State loss earned the Lakers at least a first-place tie in the conference standings with four games left on the schedule.
Chris Gilkes (Jr., Syracuse, N.Y.), Conor Monaghan (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.), Hayden Ward (Jr., Montauk, N.Y.) and Sean Michele (Sr., East Rochester, N.Y.) all hit long-range bombs to open the game and put the Lakers up 12-2 less than five minutes into the game.
The Red Dragons slowed the pace of the game and cut the lead down to 12-8, but Josh Delfino (Sr., Newfield, N.Y.) came off the bench and sparked Oswego State with eight of his 12 points in the first half. Oswego State went on a 12-5 run to end the frame and went into the locker room up 33-18 after another three-pointer by Michele.
Monaghan sank a quick three to start the second half, and the Lakers never looked back. Oswego State hit eight triples in the contest and finished 16 of 22 from the free-throw line. The Red Dragons were just seven of 15 from the charity stripe

Ward hit six of those free throws to lead the Lakers with 13 points, while Delfino and Monaghan each added 12. Chad Burridge (Sr., Hannibal, N.Y.) added 10 points, three blocked shots and a team-high seven rebounds.
Oneonta's Frankie Kelly and Dan Lee were the only Oneonta players to reach double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Lakers can clinch the No. 1 seed in the SUNYAC post-season tournament for the second-straight season with a win at New Paltz on Saturday at 4 p.m.
