Farmingdale State - 89, Yeshiva University - 67
Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's basketball team improved to 16-5 overall, 13-2 in the Skyline with tonight's 89-67 win over Yeshiva University (4-16, 4-10). The Rams were led by junior forward AJ Matthews (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 26 points and 12 rebounds, and senior guard Joshua Smith (Deer Park, N.Y.) with 24 points.
Farmingdale scored the first two baskets of the game for a 4-0 score, before Yeshiva jumped ahead 5-4 on a layup and 3-pointer at 17:11 and would hold the lead over the next five minutes. Matthews tied the game, 18-18, on a three point play with 12:54 on the clock and the Rams ran away with the lead as they shot 63-percent and built up a 14-point lead at the halftime break, 47-33.
In the second, Farmingdale continued their hot streak on a 61-percent shooting percentage and 50-percent from 3-point territory. The closest the Maccabees would get was nine points, 60-51, with 13:21 remaining.
The Rams had one other player in double figures. Senior guard Dyshaun Flournoy (Brentwood, N.Y.) finished with 10 points. Junior guard Ryan Davis (Flushing, N.Y.) dished off eight assists for the night.
Yeshiva finished the night with 20 assists as a team, on 26 field goals made. Senior guard Omer Haim (Rehovot, Israel) posted a game-high 10 assists. Junior forward Dovie Hoffman (Tarzana, Calif.) scored a team-high 22 points, while junior guard Gil Bash (Tel Aviv, Israel) had 22 points and junior center Shlomo Weissberg (Skokie, Ill.) tallied up 12 points.
The Rams will face Purchase College on Thursday, February 9th in a conference double-header with the women's team. The women tip-off at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8:00 p.m.
