MADISON, N.J. (January 28, 2012) – The duo of Terrell Brown (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson) and Asmar Capers (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) combined for 41 points to help the Rangers defeat Susquehanna (12-7, 6-3 Landmark), 67-42 this evening in Baldwin Gym. The win improves Drew to 5-15 on the year and 3-6 in the conference.
Capers had his sixth-straight game over 20 points, with a game-high 23 while Brown collected his fifth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Capers was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line and 5-of-19 from the floor.
For the Crusaders senior Spenser Spencer poured in 17 points with a game-high four 3-pointers. Sophomore center Harley Sellinger added 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds in a losing effort.
The only Susquehanna lead of the game came on the first basket of the afternoon before the Rangers scored six of the next eight points. The Rangers created separation with a 7-2 run beginning at the 11:48 mark. The Crusaders worked the lead down to three with 2:01 on the clock but free throws by Capers and a layup by Dara Mc Keon (Dunboyne, Ireland/St. Peter's College) made the score 32-25 in which it would remain until the halftime horn.
The hometown Rangers had an answer to every Susquehanna run throughout the contest. Early in the second half the Crusaders found themselves within three points of the lead with 13:42 left in the game. Drew responded swiftly with 22-7 run over a seven minute span to take an 18-point lead, the largest of the game.
Susquehanna posed one last threat over the final four minutes of action. Nine-straight points, followed by a three by Tony Seldon made the score 56-47 with 4:19 to play. With both teams in the bonus, the Rangers were able to ice the game from the free throw line. Capers hit six of his 10 free throws in the final four minutes to help the Rangers to a much needed Landmark victory.
The Rangers will be on the road for the final time in the regular season as they travel to Catholic on Friday and then matchup against Goucher on Saturday evening. Both games are slated to start at 7:30.
