ASTON, Pa. (January 25, 2012) – The Cyclones bounced back from a 20 point deficit to knock down a buzzer beating jump shot by junior Max Hughes (Nazareth, Pa./Notre Dame Green Pond) to take home an 83-82 victory over the Neumann University Knights on Wednesday night.

The Cyclones jumped out early on a missed opportunity on a dunk by the Knights when senior Larry Lenahan (South Amboy, N.J./South Amboy) was able to come back and nail three consecutive layups for the Cyclones to put Centenary ahead 6-2.

Unfortunately for the Cyclones, Neumann was able to fight right back with 12 unanswered points of their own to take a 14-6 lead with just under 15 minutes left. The Cyclones came back immediately as they took advantage of a three-point foul on Hughes who knocked down all three to bring the game to 14-9.

With just under seven minutes left in the first half and Neumann up 39-23, the Cyclones answered back with six consecutive points to bring the game to within ten before the Knights answered with a basket from downtown.

The Cyclones entered the locker rooms at halftime down 46-32, but Lenahan had 14 points and 7 rebounds alone in the first half.

Coming out of the half, the Cyclones were able to fight back as they knocked down four three-point shots within just over a three minute period to bring the Neumann lead to 51-46.

Unfortunately for the Cyclones, the Knights jumped back out ahead, running their offense to jump out to as far as a 20 point lead at 79-59 with just under six minutes to go.

With their backs to the wall, the Cyclones began to tear away at the Neumann lead as the entire Centenary offense began to knock down baskets to storm a 20-0 run and tie the game up at 79-79 with just over a minute remaining in the game.

With the help of a made free throw by Neumann, the Knights took back the lead temporarily, but Lenahan responded right back with a layup to give the Cyclones back the lead at 81-80.

Immediately after the bucket, the Cyclones committed a dangerous foul which forced them to take a timeout to gain back their thoughts with just under 30 seconds left in the game and the lead hanging in the hands of two Neumann free throws.

Down 81-80, Neumann's Patrick O'Connor was able to drop down both free throws to put the Knights back ahead 82-81 before allowing the Cyclones to take the final possession of the game.

After being helped off the court from an injury with only two minutes left in the game, Max Hughes returned back to the court for the Cyclones for the final drive of the game in hopes to help bring the Cyclones to victory. Down 82-81 and only enough time for one drive, junior Warren Murphy (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) took the ball in his own hands as he drove the length of the court before throwing up a jumper with just under five seconds remaining.

Murphy's shot bounced off the side of the rim but as the clock continued to wind down, Hughes was able to grab the loose ball and throw it up at the buzzer to knock home the game-winner and send the Cyclones home with an 83-82 victory over the Neumann University Knights.

Hughes finished the game with a total 16 points, 13 of which came from the second half where he shot 3-5 from downtown. Lenahan finished with his eighth double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds for the Cyclones.

With the win, the Cyclones improve to 10-9 overall, including a 6-6 conference mark. Centenary returns to action on Saturday when they host #8 Cabrini College as part of a men and women's double-header to honor the "Coaches vs. Cancer" weekend. Tip-off of the men's game is scheduled for 3:00pm with the women starting at 1:00pm.
