PORTLAND – Pacific could not keep pace with a "can't miss" Lewis & Clark squad Friday night as the Pioneers put together a dominant shooting performance to plow past the Boxers 84-50 in men's basketball action at the Pamplin Sports Center.
 
The Pioneers (9-7, 4-3 NWC) finished the night shooting 48.2 percent from the floor (27-56), which included a blistering 12 of 25 from three-point range.  Lewis & Clark also connected on 18 of 24 free throws, saw its bench players outscore the Pacific bench 47-23 and coughed up just six turnovers on the night.
 
Pacific (8-8, 2-5 NWC) could not muster the shooting needed to keep up with the Pioneers, connecting on 37.3 percent from the field (19-51) and only 3 of 15 from outside the arch.  Joey Burns (Fr., Hermiston, Ore.) turned in the best night of his young Pacific career, coming off the bench to lead the team with 11 points.  Colin Wester (Jr., Sherwood, Ore.) added 10.
 
Donato Perconti led four Lewis & Clark players in double figures with 17 points, coming off the pines to connect on 6 of 8 from the field and 4 of 6 from long range.  P.J. Taylor scored 13, James Hollins added 12 points and Quentin Sims contributed 10.
 
To their credit, Pacific kept the game relatively close over the first 10 minutes of the contest.  The Boxers were within four when Charles Mosley's (Jr., Hillsboro, Ore.) lay-in at the 11:40 mark made it a 16-12 game, but the Pioneers scored the next three baskets to build their first double-digit lead of the game at 22-12. 
 
Pacific closed back to within eight points on a Marc Eppinger (Fr., Camas, Wash.) trey with 8:24 in the period, but Lewis & Clark closed the half on a 21-9 run and would never leave double-digit territory again.  The lead was 10 points before the Pioneers ended on a 12-2 run, with Ross Erickson's three at the buzzer giving the home team a 45-25 lead.
 
The Boxers used a three-point play by Wester and a bucket by David Berney (Jr., Eugene, Ore.) to come with 17 points early in the second half, but the Pioneers would turn the outside heat back on the put the game well out of reach.  Taylor made it a 30-point game with his trey at the 12:42 mark while Sims gave L&C their largest lead of the game at 78-40 with 8:13 left, also on a three-pointer.
 
Pacific will close the first half of the Northwest Conference schedule on Saturday with their second and final home game of the month as they host Pacific Lutheran at 8 p.m.  At halftime, a special ceremony will be held to honor the memory of former Pacific All-American and all-time leading scorer Norm Hubert.  Earlier in the day, a group of Pacific men's basketball alumni will take part in an exhibition contest at 3:30 p.m. at the Stoller Center.  Lewis & Clark hits the road Saturday to faced Puget Sound.
