Second Half Run Propels Comets to 76-57 Win Over Choctaws

CLINTON, MS - The University of Texas at Dallas used a 16-2 run to open the second half to collect a 76-57 win over Mississippi College on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws (3-11, 2-9 ASC) jumped out to a 9-3 lead on a three-pointer by junior Jesse Taylor with 17:24 remaining in the first half.  The Comets (13-4, 9-4 ASC) came back to take a 38-34 lead into the halftime break.

The second half run was sparked by Carter Nash with four points in the first two minutes of the period.  Nash led the Comets with 17 points on 8-11 shooting.

With 10:56 remaining in the game, Scott Hurley nailed a three-pointer to make the score 59-40.  The Choctaws bounced back and cut the lead to just 63-54 with 5:08 to go on a jumper by sophomore Brandon Blake.

The Comets took off from there, outscoring MC 13-3 over the final five minutes to take the 19-point win.

Blake led the Choctaws with 16 points on 7-15 shooting from the floor.  Taylor went 2-7 from the three-point line on his way to 12 points.  Junior Adam Smith scored 10 points and pulled down eight boards, including five offensive rebounds.

Chris Barnes tallied 14 points and eight rebounds, while Kyle Schleigh added 10 points and eight boards for the Comets.  Matthew Medell made all three of his three-pointers as he scored 13 points.  Greg Chiasson led UTD with nine assists.

The Comets shot 56% from the floor for the game, including going 15-25 (60%) in the first half.

The Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they host Ozarks at 3:00 p.m. in the "Golden Dome".
