Stout wins battle of the boards, but not game

LA CROSSE (January 18, 2012) - UW-La Crosse raced out to an 8-1 lead to start off the game and the Eagles never trailed as they defeated UW-Stout, 74-50, Wednesday at Mitchell Hall.

The Eagles (12-5, 4-4 WIAC) ran out to a 17 point first half lead as eight player scored before the intermission. La Crosse built up to a 21 point lead in the second half before Stout (6-11, 1-7) cut the lead to 15 several times. La Crosse got the lead into the 20 point range midway through the second period and that is where it stayed the rest of the way.

Stout had a big night on the boards, pulling down 51 rebounds, going over 50 rebounds for only the fourth time this season. La Crosse had 31 rebounds.

Josh Kosloske (So, Oakfield) yanked down a career-best 15 rebounds to go with his 10 points.

Stout shot 32.8 percent from the floor, hitting 20-of-61 from the floor. La Crosse finished the night hitting 46 percent of their shots, draining 29-of-63 shots from the floor and 9-of-20 from 3-point range.

Stout's Jarvis Ragland (So, Milwaukee) led all scorers with 17 points, connecting on 6-of-8 shots from the floor and 2-of-3 from 3-point range.

The Eagles were led by Logan Ellman with 13 points, followed by Al Chery with 11 and Luke Tweed with 10.

Stout returns home for a two-game homestand, hosting UW-Whitewater Saturday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. and UW-River Falls, Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m.
