UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio—Junior second-team honorable mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers) notched his third double-double of the season with 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds—including 11 defensive caroms—but the Heidelberg University men's basketball team fell to John Carroll University, 94-68, tonight in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center in University Heights, Ohio. The loss ended a four-game road stretch for the Student Princes.

In addition to Davis for the Berg (5-11, 3-6 OAC), sophomore forward Victor Fortkamp (St. Henry) matched a game-high 16 points—his highest total in seven games—and junior second-team All-OAC guard Dane Givner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Harvest Prep) added 15 markers and matched a game-high with five assists, his fourth consecutive game with at least four assists.

Mark Hester led John Carroll (12-3, 6-2 OAC) with a 13-point and 15-rebound double-double of his own. Cory Schontz, Kyle Hubbard and Michael Hartnett each tallied 14 points on a combined 14-of-30 shooting. With their win, the Blue Streaks remain in a tie for first place atop the OAC standings.

Both teams traded baskets to start game, reaching the third tie of the contest at 10-10 at the 13:23 mark.

JCU then went on a 7-0 run to take a 17-10 lead, capped at the 10:43 mark when Joey Meyer made a lay-up. The Blue Steaks outscored the Berg, 15-5, over the next 4:43, taking a 32-15 advantage following a pair of free throws from Hubbard with 6:00 on the clock in the opening frame.

The Student Princes then went on a 7-0 jaunt of their own, closing the gap to 32-22 with 5:07 left as Davis made a lay-up and converted the three-point play at the foul line.

The Blue Streaks countered with another eight-point run, going up 40-22 with a Hester dunk at 3:37, and would lead by as many as 24 points entering halftime.

JCU led by at least 20 points for much of the second half, building a lead as large as 31 points with 17:24 to play.

The Berg shot 36.5 percent (23-of-63) overall, 29.4 percent (five-of-17) from the three point and just 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the charity stripe.

JCU was 45.5 percent (35-of-77) from the field and 43.5 percent (10-of-23) from three-point range, held a 51-43 edge in rebounds and committed just 12 turnovers.

The Student Princes return to Tiffin to host their first game in more than two weeks on Saturday, Jan. 21 when they face Wilmington College at 3 p.m.
