Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior forward AJ Matthews scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting and had 14 rebounds as the Rams defeated Sage 66-51. Matthews leads the nation after recording his 11th double-double of the season this afternoon.

Farmingdale State (9-4, 5-1) held Sage (6-7, 2-5) to only four points in the first 8:37 as the Rams had an early 15-4 lead. The Gators would close within six trailing 20-14 with 6:04 remaining, before a 6-2 Farmingdale State run over the final 6:04 gave the Rams a 26-16 halftime edge. Matthews and Sage's Robert Fuchs (Wesley Chapel, Fla) each had eight points in the first half.

Leading 31-24 with 16:33 remaining, an 11-2 Farmingdale State run capped off by a Matthews dunk off junior guard Ryan Davis' (Flushing, N.Y.) pass put the Rams ahead 42-26. Farmingdale State would lead by as many as 18 and hold a double digit advantage for the remainder of the way as they defeated Sage 66-51.

Matthews now has a double-double in every game he has played this season. Davis scored 12 points and had a game-high eight assists, while senior guard Joshua Smith (Brentwood, N.Y.) added 12 points for the Rams.

Sophomore forward Mason Horne (Albany, N.Y.) led the Gators with 13 points and seven boards.

Farmingdale State next will host NYU-Poly in a conference game on Tuesday, January 17th at 8:00 p.m.
