MENOMONIE, Wis. (January 14, 2012) - UW-Stout showed their home fans a different team than they have seen as of late, as they dominated UW-Oshkosh, 69-55, securing their first conference win, Saturday evening at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Thomas Scholle-Malone (Jr, Milwaukee) provided the highlight of the game with a two-handed slam dunk off a steal before playing a key role in holding off the surging Titans. Scholle-Malone scored seven of his career-high 13 points in the last eight minutes and finished 6-for-7 shooting on the night.
The Blue Devils (6-10, 1-6 WIAC) grabbed a 26-11 lead midway through the first half thanks in big part to Alex Oman (So, Lake Elmo, Minn.), who scored seven points during that stretch. Oman led all players on the night with 19 points, 15 in the first half, and has scored double digits in five straight games.
Oshkosh (4-12, 0-7 WIAC) cut their deficit to seven points approaching halftime, but Stout took a 37-23 lead into the locker rooms after ending the half on a 9-2 run capped off by a halfcourt buzzer beater by Oman.
Stout looked as if they would run away with the game in the second half, but the Titans did not give up. With 13 minutes remaining, they started a 12-4 run that brought the lead down to just five. The Blue Devils proved resilient, however, answering with an Oman jumper, an Aaron Jenny (So, New London, Minn.) three-pointer, and Scholle-Malone's dunk to virtually seal the victory.
Jenny finished with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Cory Nickel scored 14 points to lead the Titans, while teammate Chad Mathwig led all players with eight rebounds.
Stout will travel to UW-Lacross this Wednesday, Jan. 18, and return home on Saturday, Jan. 21 to host UW-Whitewater.
