Cleveland, Ohio, January 13, 2012 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's basketball team shot a season-high 55.2 percent from the field and had 23 assists in a 87-71 win at Case Western Reserve University on Friday night at Horsburgh Gymnasium in Cleveland.

Junior Ben Hoener led four Bears in doubles figures with a season-high 16 points on 7-of-7 shooting in 18 minutes off the bench. Sophomore Chris Klimek (15 points), seniorDylan Richter (14 points) and junior Robert Burnett (13 points) also scored in double figures for the Bears. The 13 points for Burnett was a career-high.

Washington U. got open shots against the Case Western Reserve defense in the first half, connecting on 10 of its first 16 shots from the field. With the starters on the bench, the Bears went on a 9-2 run as they jumped in front 22-16 with 10:12 left on the clock following a fast-break lay-up by Hoener.

Richter was held scoreless in the opening 13 minutes of the game, but scored 12-straight points for the Bears in a span of 2:26 to put Washington U. up 36-30. The Bears held onto a four-point lead (41-37), but ended the half by scoring seven of the final nine points to take a 48-39 lead at intermission. Hoener scored the final two buckets, including a driving lay-up as time expired.

The Bears torched the nets in the first half shooting 54.3 percent (19-35) from the field, including 68 percent (27-35) from inside the three-point arc. Washington U. had 12 assists in the opening 20 minutes of play, and turned 11 turnovers by Case into 18 points. Richter led the Bears with 12 points, while Burnett added nine and Hoener had eight.

Washington University connected on its first five shots of the second half, all lay-ups, as the Bears built a double figure lead at 58-46. Klimek (eight points) and senior Alex Toth (six points) combined to score the first 14 points of the second half for Washington U. A steal and a lay-up by sophomore Tim Cooney pushed the advantage to 68-50.

The Bears took their largest lead of the game (82-58) with 6:38 to play following a tip-in by Klimek. Washington U. shot 56.3 percent (18-32) in the second half.

Austin Fowler (22 points), Tom Summers (10 points) and Dane McLoughlin (10 points) all scored in double figures for Case, which dropped to 8-5, 0-2 in the UAA.

Washington University (10-3, 2-0 UAA) concludes a two-game road trip at Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday, Jan. 15. Game time is set for Noon (ET) in Pittsburgh, Pa.
