WILKES-BARRE (PA) – Wilkes University shot 55.4 percent from the field, including 65.6 percent in the second half, as the Colonels ended a four-game losing streak to visiting Delaware Valley College with an 84-59, Freedom Conference victory.

The win was the fourth straight on the season for Wilkes as it improved to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Colonels had struggled with Delaware Valley in recent match-ups as it dropped a late-season meeting in 2009-10 and three contests last season, including the Freedom Conference semifinals in Doylestown. The Aggies then went on to win their first-ever league championship.

Wednesday's loss dropped the current Delaware Valley squad – with three new starters and no seniors on the roster - to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the Freedom. On Saturday, the Aggies will meet the team they upended in last year's title game, DeSales University.

Wilkes never trailed in the contest and used a 6-0 run at the end of the first half to open up a 37-24 lead at the intermission. Delaware Valley had just scored four straight points, two each by Jeremy Beckett and Daulton Derr to get within seven before the late Colonel spurt.

Wilkes then put the game away at the start of the second half as, after a Beckett layup, it scored 13 unanswered points for a 50-26 advantage. Five different players scored for the Colonels in the run. They wound up hitting 21 of 32 shots from the field in those final 20 minutes.

Four of the five Wilkes starters reached double figures in scoring, including Kendall Hinze's game-high 18 points. Jourdon Wilson and Paul Huch followed with 16 and 15 points respectively while Jeremy Hartman added 10 points.

Beckett notched 17 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots for Delaware Valley. Nate Lewis added 13 points and eight boards while Nathan Bollinger finished with 10 points, all in the second half.
